Nutrition for Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing
At Harborside Psychiatrics, we recognize that nutrition plays a vital role in emotional and cognitive wellbeing. The foods we eat directly influence energy, focus, mood, and overall mental health. That’s why our registered dietitian works closely with your psychiatric provider to create personalized nutrition plans that address nutrient deficiencies, inflammation, and gut-brain balance — supporting your mind and body together.
We help clients optimize mental health through food-based healing, nutritional counseling, and functional testing. Whether you’re seeking improved energy, better mood regulation, or recovery from disordered eating, our integrated approach provides compassionate, evidence-based support.
Our dietitian has extensive experience working with clients of all genders and ages who struggle with eating disorders, body image concerns, or difficult relationships with food. We are deeply committed to helping individuals integrate nutrition as a key element of whole-person health and wellness.
We practice from a weight-inclusive, non-diet, and socially just framework, offering nutrition therapy for a wide range of mental health and medical conditions. Guided by the principles of Health At Every Size® (HAES®) and Intuitive Eating, we empower clients to reconnect with their bodies, improve self-trust, and find sustainable nourishment — without shame or restriction.

Frequently Asked Questions
About Nutrition
Our RDs understand the tremendous amount of diet culture present in today’s society and will never be judgmental around any goal you bring in to work on. However, our RDs will not support crash dieting, restricting food groups with the sole purpose of weight loss, or any unsafe/unhealthy measures to lose weight. Instead, our RDs will work with you to develop a nutrition plan that meets your body’s needs, supplies energy you need for your activity level, supports healthy sleep, and lets your body find its way to the shape and weight that is right for you.
Absolutely! Working with an RD is helpful for general wellness. In addition, Laura is skilled at helping people navigate polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) diagnoses.
We are committed to supporting the athlete population. We do not currently have a sports dietitian, but our RD Laura can work with clients to make a fueling plan based on their activity needs.
At Harborside, we use the SEES protocol in addition to symptom report and discussions with other providers to determine when and how much exercise makes sense for clients who have had to reduce.
We currently offer RD services in MA, NH, NC, and IL.
